After becoming Tinubu's chief of staff, Femi Gbajabiamila is set to quit as NASS members.

On the House of Representatives' floor today, June 14, it is anticipated that Femi Gbajabiamila, the current Speaker, will formally announce his resignation.

Channels TV Online reported that the former Speaker will leave his position as a legislator to focus on his work as President Tinubu's Chief of Staff.

Due to the fact that the former Speaker was inaugurated on Tuesday alongside his colleagues for the 10th Assembly, there were rumblings prior to his appointment as COS about whether he would simultaneously manage his position in the legislature and the presidency.

However, Channels TV reported that Gbajabiamila will submit his resignation on Wednesday (today), after which the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, may hold a new election to replace him.

As a result of Gbajabiamila's resignation, the Surulere 1 federal constituency will become vacant, necessitating a new election by the Independent National Electoral Commission to select a successor.

Gbajabiamila has been a lawmaker in the House of Representatives since 2003, and his victory in the general election in 2023 marks a record-breaking sixth consecutive victory.

He went on to become one of the House of Representatives members who served for the longest in the history of Nigeria's democracy.
