Chelsea Sign Portuguese Defender Renato Veiga from FC Basel for €14 Million

Chelsea have agreed a €14 million deal with FC Basel to sign 20-year-old Portuguese defender Renato Veiga
The versatile left-footed player, who can operate as a left-sided centre-back, left-back, or a defensive midfielder, is set to undergo a medical in London and sign an eight-year contract until 2032.

Veiga, a Portugal U20 international, made 26 appearances across all competitions for Basel last season, scoring two goals and providing one assist. He is expected to play as an inverted full-back under Chelsea's new head coach Enzo Maresca, aligning well with the team's tactical approach.

The transfer fee could rise to €15 million with add-ons, and Veiga's former club Sporting CP will receive 10% of the transfer fee due to a sell-on clause included in the €4.6 million deal when he joined Basel last summer.

Veiga will join Chelsea's recent signings including Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Marc Guiu, Omari Kellyman, and Tosin Adabioyo in the current transfer window, as the club focuses on acquiring young talent to build a competitive team for the future
