Ejimakor Urges Britain to Condemn Nnamdi Kanu's Extraordinary Rendition

Aloy Ejimakor, the lead counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has called on Britain to stand up against the extraordinary rendition of his client from Kenya to Nigeria.

Ejimakor made this appeal on Monday, emphasizing that the act of extraordinary rendition "inherently destroys every prospect for a fair trial" in the jurisdiction where the individual is brought. He argued that the British government has an obligation to acknowledge and condemn Kanu's rendition, given that he is a British-Nigerian citizen.

The IPOB leader's lawyer's statement comes after a UK court granted permission to Kanu's family to challenge a previous ruling that allowed the British government to evade reaching a conclusion on whether Kanu was subjected to detention and extraordinary rendition.

Ejimakor expressed delight that the UK court has "unhesitatingly recognized the importance and urgency" of Kanu's case, with the appeal hearing scheduled for June 22, 2023. He emphasized that the grounds of appeal raise critical issues regarding the scope of the British government's obligations in relation to Kanu's case.

This development is the latest in the ongoing legal battle surrounding Nnamdi Kanu's detention and the circumstances of his return to Nigeria. Ejimakor's call for Britain to stand up against the alleged extraordinary rendition underscores the IPOB leader's supporters' efforts to seek justice and accountability for his treatment.

As the appeal process moves forward, the international community, particularly Britain, will be closely watched to see if they heed Ejimakor's call and take a firm stance against the alleged violation of Kanu's rights.
