Kaduna Nurses Launch 5-Day Warning Strike Over Unmet Demands

Nurses and other health workers in Kaduna State, Nigeria have begun a five-day warning strike on Monday, July 8th, 2024, to protest the non-implementation of their demands by the state government

The strike action has led to a shortage of medical personnel in various government-owned hospitals across the state.

The striking workers are demanding the implementation of the new minimum wage, payment of outstanding salaries and allowances, and improved working conditions. A visit to some of the affected hospitals revealed that nurses were on strike, leaving patients without adequate care.

The strike action is expected to last for five days, with the health workers threatening to embark on an indefinite strike if their demands are not met

The Kaduna State government is yet to respond officially to the strike action or the demands of the health workers.

The situation has raised concerns about the impact of the strike on healthcare delivery in the state, especially for patients who rely on public hospitals for medical attention. Residents have appealed to both the health workers and the state government to find a quick resolution to the impasse to avoid further disruption to healthcare services
