New Minimum Wage: Nigerian Workers Confirm Receipt of FG Payments

Nigerian civil servants have begun receiving payments for the newly approved minimum wage of N70,000, effective September 26, 2024. The announcement was made by Bawa Mokwa, spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, who confirmed that alerts regarding the new salary payments would start appearing for federal employees.

While the payment of the new minimum wage marks a significant development for over 1.2 million civil servants, there is uncertainty regarding whether these payments will include any outstanding arrears. The increase follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's approval in July 2024 and aims to address rising living costs amid ongoing economic challenges in the country.
