Imo Police Enhance Security: Officers Trained in Bomb Detection and Handling
The Imo State Police Command has initiated a training program focused on bomb detection and handling, following a recent tragic incident involving an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion at the International Market in Orlu, which resulted in two deaths and several injuries.
The training took place as a one-day session aimed at enhancing the skills of officers in identifying, handling, and disposing of IEDs.
The training was led by CSP M.A. Ogini, who is the Officer in Charge of the Anti-Bomb Squad.
Officers from various divisions and area commands across Imo State participated in the training.
The primary goal of the training is to improve the police force's capability to detect and neutralize threats posed by explosives, particularly in light of the increasing use of IEDs in criminal activities. Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, emphasized the necessity for police readiness to tackle these threats effectively to ensure public safety.
The police command has indicated that this training will be part of a regular exercise, with follow-up sessions planned to reinforce the knowledge gained among officers. This initiative reflects a commitment to enhancing operational readiness against emerging security challenges in the state[1][2].
