LP Chieftains Call for Age Limit on Public Office Holders

Labour Party (LP) leaders have urged the National Assembly to pass a bill imposing age limits on politicians seeking public office, particularly ahead of the 2027 elections.

During the 2024 Annual Meeting and National Youth Conference in Abuja, LP's National Youth Leader, Kennedy Ahanotu, argued that candidates aged 70 and above should be barred from running for positions like president and governor.

He emphasized that such measures would allow younger generations to take on leadership roles, echoing sentiments that aging politicians hinder progress.

Other party members echoed these views, linking age to declining productivity in governance.
