Benue Assembly Approves ₦550bn 2025 Budget Focused on Development and Innovation
The Benue State House of Assembly has passed the 2025 appropriation bill, totaling ₦550.1 billion, into law. The bill, titled "Budget of Human Capital Development, Food Security, and Digital Economy," was presented by Governor Hyacinth Alia and subsequently approved after its third reading during a plenary session led by Speaker Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh.
The budget allocates ₦175.4 billion for recurrent expenditure and ₦374.7 billion for capital projects, marking a 47.5% increase over the 2024 revised budget. The capital expenditure focuses on sectors such as infrastructure development, agriculture, education, and health.
Additionally, the Assembly approved recommendations to reassess the recruitment process for primary school teachers by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to ensure fairness and compliance with state laws. Two other bills—the Rev Fr Moses Orshio Adasu University Bill and the Benue State University of Agriculture Science and Technology Ihugh Bill—were also passed during the session.
The House has now proceeded on recess, concluding the second sitting of the second legislative session of the tenth Assembly.
