Home Eagles Secure CHAN 2024 Spot with 3-1 Victory Over Ghana

The Nigeria Home Eagles have clinched their ticket to the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after a commanding 3-1 victory against Ghana's Black Galaxies at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. Following a goalless draw in the first leg, Nigeria took control of the second leg early on, showcasing a dominant performance.

Ismaila Sodiq opened the scoring for Nigeria in the 19th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from Ghana. Just three minutes later, captain Nduka Junior doubled the lead, poking the ball into the net after a scramble in the penalty area. The hosts continued to press, and Saviour Isaac added a third goal in the 25th minute, rounding off a devastating nine-minute spell that left Ghana reeling.

Despite Nigeria's commanding lead, they adopted a more conservative approach in the second half, focusing on possession and limiting Ghana's chances. The Black Galaxies managed to pull one back in the 73rd minute through Stephen Amankona, but it was too late to change the outcome.

With this victory, Nigeria secures their place at CHAN 2024, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. This marks a significant return for Nigeria to the tournament after missing out in recent editions.
