APC Expels Aregbesola Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities, Deepening Political Rift

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled former Minister of Interior and ex-Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, over alleged anti-party activities. The decision was confirmed in a statement released by the party’s leadership, citing violations of the party’s constitution and conduct deemed detrimental to its unity and progress.

According to reports, Aregbesola’s expulsion follows a series of internal disputes and allegations that he worked against the party’s interests in recent elections. Party leaders accused him of engaging in activities that undermined the APC’s structure, particularly in Osun State, where tensions between his faction and the mainstream APC leadership have been ongoing.

Reacting to the expulsion, some of Aregbesola’s supporters have condemned the move, describing it as politically motivated. They argue that the former minister has remained loyal to the party and has only advocated for reforms to strengthen internal democracy.

Meanwhile, the APC National Working Committee (NWC) insists that the expulsion aligns with the party’s commitment to discipline and cohesion. A spokesperson for the party stated:
"No individual is above the party. The APC is built on principles of loyalty and unity, and anyone found engaging in anti-party activities will face appropriate consequences."

Aregbesola is yet to officially react to the development, but political analysts predict that his next move could significantly impact Osun State’s political landscape. Some speculate that he may align with another political party or form a new political movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As the situation unfolds, the expulsion of Aregbesola marks a significant shift in the internal power dynamics of the APC, with potential implications for the party’s future in Osun State and beyond.
