NFF President Gusau Confirms Éric Chelle's Appointment as Super Eagles Head Coach
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau, has announced that the Super Eagles will soon have a substantive head coach, confirming the recent appointment of Éric Chelle. The former Mali national team coach's selection was officially endorsed by the NFF Executive Committee on January 7, 2025, following recommendations from the Technical and Development Sub-Committee.
Chelle's immediate task is to lead the Super Eagles in their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, with crucial matches scheduled for March. Gusau emphasized the importance of having a dedicated coach who can start working with the team right away, particularly as they gear up for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) in February.
Chelle, who previously led Mali to a quarter-final finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, brings valuable experience to the role. His appointment is seen as a pivotal move for Nigerian football as they aim to regain their status as a dominant force on the continent and secure a place in the World Cup. The NFF and fans alike are optimistic about Chelle's ability to inspire and develop the Super Eagles into a competitive team.
