Nigeria Football Federation Appoints Éric Chelle as New Super Eagles Head Coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially appointed Éric Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles, following a tumultuous period since the resignation of José Peseiro. The decision was ratified by the NFF Executive Committee on January 7, 2025, marking a significant step toward stabilizing the national team's coaching structure.

Chelle, a 47-year-old former Mali international, is tasked with leading the Super Eagles in their quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His immediate focus will be on the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) in East Africa, where he will manage the home-based players.

Previously, Chelle led Mali to a commendable quarter-final finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, showcasing his capability to manage competitive teams. His appointment comes at a critical time as Nigeria currently sits in a challenging position in their World Cup qualifying group.

The NFF hopes Chelle's experience and strategic approach will restore stability and success to the Super Eagles, who have faced several managerial changes in recent years. As he embarks on this new journey, all eyes will be on how Chelle navigates the pressures of Nigerian football and aims to achieve the long-desired success for fans and stakeholders alike.
