PDP BoT Affirms Ude-Okoye as National Secretary, Snubs Anyanwu
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) has affirmed Sunday Ude-Okoye as the party's National Secretary, effectively snubbing Samuel Anyanwu. The decision was announced by BoT Chairman Adolphus Wabara on Wednesday, following the 80th session of the BoT in Abuja.
The BoT's decision backs the PDP governors and comes amid a lingering leadership crisis within the party. Wabara stated that the BoT recognizes Ude-Okoye as the substantive National Secretary, in compliance with the Enugu High Court's judgment, which was upheld by the Court of Appeal. The BoT has directed the National Working Committee (NWC) to immediately recognize and swear in Ude-Okoye as the National Secretary.
The endorsement of Ude-Okoye occurred after the BoT reviewed documents and reports, including one from a committee led by Kabiru Turaki. The decision follows months of internal disputes over the position, which intensified after the South-East PDP nominated Ude-Okoye to replace Anyanwu, who had contested the Imo State governorship election.
Anyanwu has criticized the BoT’s decision and has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, the Supreme Court, and the Appeal Court, maintaining that he is still the rightful National Secretary. The BoT also passed a vote of confidence in Adolphus Wabara and Ahmed Makarfi as chairman and secretary, respectively.
