Atlético Madrid Sign Super Eagles Star Ademola Lookman from Atalanta on Four-Year Deal

Atlético Madrid have reached an agreement with Italian Serie A side Atalanta for the transfer of Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman, with the Super Eagles star set to wear the club’s red-and-white jersey for the next four seasons.

The Spanish club confirmed that the deal is subject to the completion of a medical and final contract formalities. Lookman has already arrived in Madrid to finalize the move, marking a major step in his professional career.

The 28-year-old forward joins Atlético after an impressive spell in Italy, where he became one of Atalanta’s most important attacking players. His performances for both club and country — including standout displays for Nigeria in major international competitions — helped attract interest from several European clubs. 

Reports indicate the transfer could be worth around €40 million, making Lookman one of the most expensive Nigerian footballers in history. 

Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone is expected to rely on Lookman’s pace, creativity, and goal-scoring ability to strengthen the team’s attack as the club continues to compete in La Liga and European competitions.

For Lookman, the move represents a new chapter and an opportunity to prove himself in Spanish football after successful spells in England, Germany, and Italy.
