Nigeria Appoints Ambassadors to Iran and Israel Amid Rising Middle East War

Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of new Nigerian ambassadors to both Iran and Israel despite the ongoing tensions and military conflict in the Middle East.

According to reports, Ambassador Hamza Mohammed Salau has been posted to Iran, while Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu has been assigned as Nigeria’s ambassador to Israel. The appointments are part of a broader diplomatic reshuffle involving 65 ambassadors to various countries and international missions

The postings come at a time of heightened conflict in the region following military strikes and escalating hostilities involving Israel, Iran, and their allies. The situation has reportedly led to significant casualties and rising global concern over regional stability.

Despite the conflict, Nigeria appears to be maintaining its diplomatic engagement with both countries by ensuring representation in Tehran and Tel Aviv. Analysts say the move reflects Nigeria’s long-standing approach of maintaining balanced diplomatic relations with multiple global partners.

The ambassadorial deployments are part of the federal government’s effort to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic presence abroad. The 65 ambassadors include 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career appointees, many of whom were confirmed by the Senate in late 2025 before their official postings were approved.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is expected to begin orientation and deployment processes for the ambassadors as Nigeria works to reinforce its diplomatic missions and international partnerships.
