What I Discovered as the Reason for Nigeria's Unemployment - Governor Aria

Benue Governor Father Hyacinth Aria expressed concern over the country's high postgraduate unemployment rate.

He said the lack of education in skills and entrepreneurship remains the main reason for the country's high unemployment rate.

Aria delivered a speech on Thursday in Abuja on what he called a solidarity visit to Mr Sonny Econo, Executive Director of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

The governor aims to partner with the foundation to improve the quality of higher education and said the government intends to make education in Benue a top priority.

He commended the TETF Fund's administrators for the massive incursions into public higher education institutions in the state and across the country.

He said, "Nigeria's high unemployment rate is due to the fact that young people in this country have many degrees, but their skills are not tied to those degrees." . Both graduates and those with no formal training roamed the streets.

Mr Aria said the government will come back to the table to revitalize education in the state, saying Benue's universities were once known for their quality and academics.

“We are here for a solidarity visit with my brother, CEO of TETFund.

"The venue is also a beneficiary of your project." Thank you for your facility.

"Eight days into my term as governor, I look forward to working with your agency in our joint effort to advance education in our country," he said.
