Troops deployed to Ochumekwu community in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State were reportedly attacked by suspected armed herdsmen. Major General Sunday Iserihen Igbinomwanhia, the Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), confirmed the incident, stating that one soldier was killed and another injured. In response, the troops killed three of the attackers and injured several others, recovering one AK-47 rifle and rounds of ammunition. The OPWS is currently conducting a clearance operation to remove suspected armed foreign herders who have invaded the Kwande Local Government Area of the State. This incident comes after a similar attack in February in Agatu local government, where a soldier was killed and two others injured by suspected herders who ambushed the troops.
