Information Minister Welcomes Rescued Kaduna Journalists

Nigeria's Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has received the two journalists who were recently abducted in Kaduna state. The journalists, AbdulGafar Alabelewe and Segun Olatunji, were rescued by security forces and reunited with their families.

The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, formally handed over the freed victims to Minister Mohammed, highlighting the successful rescue operation. The abduction had occurred on July 6th when suspected kidnappers targeted the journalists and their families at their residences in Kaduna.

Minister Mohammed commended the security agencies for their swift action in securing the release of the journalists, emphasizing the government's commitment to protecting media professionals. The minister also addressed recent incidents of harassment and detention of journalists, stating that these issues are being resolved through dialogue and collaboration with stakeholders.

The International Press Institute had earlier traced one of the abducted journalists, Segun Olatunji, to military detention and engaged with the Ministry of Information and National Orientation to seek his release. With the successful rescue of both journalists, the minister's office can now focus on preventing future incidents and ensuring the safety of media practitioners in Nigeria.
