INEC Explains 2 AM Declaration of Tinubu as 2023 Presidential Election Winner

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has provided insights into its decision to declare Bola Tinubu the winner of the 2023 presidential election at 2 AM.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, stated that the timing was necessary to ensure a thorough and accurate collation of results from the various states, despite challenges such as violence and logistical issues that delayed the election process in some areas.

Yakubu emphasized that Tinubu met all constitutional requirements, securing 8,794,726 votes and achieving over 25% of the votes in 30 states, surpassing the 24 states needed for a valid declaration.

The commission faced scrutiny from opposition parties, who alleged electoral irregularities, particularly regarding the failure to upload results to a central server prior to the announcement.

INEC maintained that the declaration followed legal protocols and urged any aggrieved parties to seek redress through appropriate channels.
