INEC Gears Up for Edo and Ondo Governorship Elections in 2024

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has taken significant steps to ensure the successful conduct of the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States, scheduled for September 21 and November 16, 2024, respectively.
Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Edo and Ondo

INEC has announced that the CVR exercise will commence on Monday, May 27, 2024, and end on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. The process will take place across 397 registration centers in both states from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm daily, including weekends.

Accreditation of Election Observers

INEC has accredited a total of 134 local and international election observer groups to monitor the governorship polls in Edo and Ondo states. Out of the 134 groups, 124 are domestic, while 10 are international.

Stakeholder Engagements

INEC has been engaging critical stakeholders in the electoral process, including political parties, civil society organizations, and the media. The commission has also set up a Constitution and Electoral Act Amendments Committee to review irregularities in recent elections and make proposals to the National Assembly.

Preparations for Smooth Elections

INEC has taken proactive measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections, such as early security preparations, prompt delivery of materials, efficient logistics deployment, and transparent results collation.
The commission has also called for a collaborative approach to restore a single election season in Nigeria.

With these comprehensive preparations, INEC is confident that the 2024 Edo and Ondo governorship elections will be an improvement on the success story of the 2020 polls in these states
