Kaduna Labour Party Faction Opposes Nenadi Usman's Appointment as National Caretaker Chair

A faction of the Labour Party in Kaduna State has rejected the appointment of Nenadi Usman as the party's National Caretaker Committee Chairman. The group, led by Kaduna State LP Chairman, Ephraim Haruna Goje, argued that Usman's selection was unconstitutional and lacked the backing of the party's constitution.

Goje insisted that the decision to appoint Usman was made without the input of state chapters, which he claimed is a violation of the party's guidelines. He maintained that the Labour Party in Kaduna will not recognize Usman's leadership and will continue to operate under the current state executive committee.

The faction's rejection of Usman's appointment highlights the internal divisions within the Labour Party following its disappointing performance in the 2023 general elections. The party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, came third in the race, despite generating significant enthusiasm among Nigerian youth.

The Kaduna LP faction's stance underscores the need for the party to address its internal conflicts and chart a clear path forward if it hopes to remain a viable political force in the country's political landscape.
