Fayemi Supports Oyebanji's Second Term Bid for Ekiti 2026, Encourages Open Competition

Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has publicly endorsed the current governor, Biodun Oyebanji, for a second term in the upcoming 2026 gubernatorial elections. Speaking at an end-of-year gathering of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Isan Ekiti, Fayemi emphasized that while he supports Oyebanji's candidacy, he welcomes anyone who believes they have the qualifications to contest for the governorship position.

Fayemi stated, “I’m a democrat, so I won’t discourage anyone from seeking the governorship ticket. Anyone who feels qualified can run. But what I’m saying is that as for me and my family, we are for Oyebanji’s second term.” He praised Oyebanji's governance and expressed confidence in his ability to continue leading the state effectively.

The date for the 2026 Ekiti Gubernatorial Election is expected to be announced in April 2025, as political activities ramp up ahead of the election. Fayemi's endorsement is seen as a significant boost for Oyebanji as he prepares for his re-election campaign.
