Tinubu Hails Warri Refinery Restart as a Milestone for Nigeria's Progress

President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound satisfaction with the recent resumption of operations at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC), describing it as a significant achievement that brings joy to him and Nigerians alike.

The refinery, which has a capacity of 125,000 barrels per day (bpd), is currently operating at 60% capacity after years of inactivity.

In a statement released on December 30, 2024, President Tinubu remarked, "The restart of Warri Refinery today brings joy and gladness to me and Nigerians. This will further strengthen the hope and confidence of Nigerians for a greater and better future that we promised."

He commended the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and its leadership for their dedication to restoring Nigeria's refining capabilities, stating, "I congratulate Mele Kyari and his team at NNPCL for working hard to restore our national pride and make Nigeria a hub for crude oil refining in Africa."

The President also urged NNPCL to expedite rehabilitation efforts on the Kaduna Refinery and the second Port Harcourt Refinery, emphasizing his administration's commitment to achieving energy efficiency and security.

The WRPC's return to operation is expected to enhance Nigeria's local refining capacity, reduce dependence on imported petroleum products, and contribute positively to the nation's economy.
