Airtel Justifies Proposed Tariff Hike, Citing 300% Surge in Operational Costs

Airtel Nigeria has justified its recent request for a tariff hike, citing a staggering 300% increase in operational costs over the past 18 to 24 months.

CEO Dinesh Balsingh explained that the static tariffs over the last decade are no longer sustainable due to rising expenses, including energy costs and significant capital investments needed to enhance network infrastructure and service quality.

The company aims to align pricing with current economic realities while ensuring continued investment in technology and improved service delivery for consumers. Airtel has proposed a 100% increase in tariffs to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to address these challenges effectively.
