NELFUND Disburses ₦161.97 Billion to Support 864,798 Nigerian Students
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed a total of ₦161.97 billion to 864,798 students across the country, marking a major milestone in the federal government’s effort to expand access to higher education.
The disbursement forms part of the ongoing implementation of the national student loan scheme, designed to ease the financial burden on students in tertiary institutions and ensure that economic challenges do not hinder academic aspirations.
According to the figures released, the funds cover tuition fees and essential academic-related expenses, providing relief to students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Beneficiaries cut across public universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education nationwide.
The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to human capital development, with education positioned as a key driver of national growth and long-term economic stability.
NELFUND has reiterated its pledge to maintain transparency, efficiency, and fairness in the loan process, while encouraging eligible students to take advantage of the scheme through proper application channels.
With nearly one million students already supported, the programme is widely seen as a transformative step toward making higher education more inclusive and accessible in Nigeria.
